Councillor Steve Shaw-Wright has been appointed as the new chair of Selby Community Primary School, taking over from Peter Foster who is standing down as chair, but remaining as a governor. Steve bring with him significant knowledge of the education and the wider community of Selby and North Yorkshire.
Councillor Steve Shaw-Wright, said “I’m privileged to have been appointed/ elected to the position of Chair of Governors at Selby Community Primary School. The School has a fantastic staff and provides far more than just a first class education for the children of the town and surrounding areas, led by an inspirational head teacher. The school is the hub for many family oriented activities and is actively involved on Selby’s civic and cultural events.”

As a school it is important we reflect our local community in all our decisions. I can think of no one better than Steve bring his wealth of experience to the Chair of Governor role. He will help us to make the right decisions for our school and community so that our children can achieve their very best.”
Steve Shaw-Wright is currently a member of Selby Town and North Yorkshire Council. He is the leader of Selby Town Council. Steve is also the NYC Labour Group leader. He has been a party member for 45 years, is a UNISON member, a former National Union of Mine Workers member and is a member of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. Steve is fiercely loyal to the party, union and community. He is committed to local government especially Town and Parish councils.
