Selby Community Primary School Secures Early Years Improvement Funding

It has been announced by the Department for Education that Selby Community Primary School has been awarded funding as part of the School Nursery Capital Fund applications process. The school is the only successful bid approved by the Department for Education. Working in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council a joint bid to improve the outdoor area to match the brand new four classroom early years extension was approved.

Ian Clennan, Head teacher and Chief Executive of Selby Educational Trust, spoke of the school’s surprise at the announcement: “This bid was submitted in autumn and we thought it may not be approved due to the deadline passing in early spring. We are delighted that our new four-classroom early years extension will now have an outdoor area to match the best-quality environment we can provide. The outdoor environment will be rooted in developing early language and communication skills so that all children get off to a flying start in early years.”

The work is hoped to be completed before Christmas.
